Staying active at work

Ideas
· Go get a glass of water, which will force you to drink more water throughout the day as well as keeping you active.
· Stand up while talking on the phone
· While sitting in your chair, hold your legs out straight and flex your muscles for as long as you can
· Do some lunges on the way to the bathroom (who cares if people think you are crazy)
· Put your palms on the wall and do mini push ups while standing
· Get up to talk to a coworker rather than calling them on the other side of the office
· Purposely put office supplies in a place that is out of reach so that you have to get up to use them
· Stretch!
· Even just wiggling your foot or bouncing your leg up and down is helpful
· Always take the stairs instead of the elevator
· Use the restroom that is the farthest away from your desk
· Tell your coworkers why you are doing these things and get them to join you! It makes a huge difference when you have others to support you!
Sitting hunched over at a desk is also detrimental to your muscles and bones. Many people sit with their head jutting forward and their spine can actually begin to change into a more curved position, so when you are sitting at your desk, concentrate on keeping your spine and head straighter. Sitting on an exercise ball is one idea to improve posture and it also engages your muscles a little bit. Having good sitting posture improves nerve health which can affect metabolism by infringing on nerve reading to organs that produce hormones and to the gut.
